Manta Divers June 2009
It is finally June, although it may not feel like it. Mike and his assistant Gary were just in Lake Andrea this week prepping for our dives out there, and reported that the water was fine and the fish are just waiting for visitors. It is certainly time to get your regs serviced and wetsuits out of storage for the dive season ahead.
Our “kick off” dive is this Saturday at one of our favorite spots, Pearl Lake in South Beloit, IL. Entries into the lake are easy and dive attractions are marked by buoys making them easy to find. Among the “sunken treasures” are a bus, a submarine, an airplane, a fishing boat and an alien. They also have a buoyancy course to help you hone your skills. We will be leaving the shop at 6:30am. Divers wishing to join our group may caravan down with us or just meet us there. Remember to tell them you are with the Manta group when you register.
Later this month we are heading for an over night trip to Haigh Quarry in Kankakee, IL. This would be a great trip to come on if you are doing your advanced open water training. Adventure dive possibilities include, Deep, Wreck, Buoyancy, Night, and Under Water Navigation, to name a few. Be sure to reserve your time with the instructor and/or your gear if you will be joining us.
If you want to try something really fun, come on one of our Lake Michigan dive charters. July 18 we are heading out to the Dredge 906 and the Lumberman. You may recall the little bio for these wrecks in last month’s newsletter. August 9 we are heading south to explore the “Titanic of the Great Lakes”, the Lady Elgin. Space is very limited on theses dives, so come in and sign up if you want a spot. Check the calendar on the web site for our full summer schedule.
