Manta Divers July 2008
07/15/2008

Greetings Divers!

I hope everyone had a safe and fun filled holiday!  The local dive season has finally gotten off to a start.  Why not join in?   Everyone knows that the safest divers are those who dive frequently.  The shop’s trip to Haigh Quarry recently was a great success.  Manta Diver Terese Rutkowski has contributed a nice trip report.  Check it out on our trip report page.

Remember, a group from the shop will be diving at Pearl Lake on Sat., July 19. We will leave the haighquarry017shop early Sat., 6am.  We are doing some rescue diver and advanced open water training, and as always, certified divers are welcome to join us.  If you need to rent gear, be sure to reserve it ahead of time.  We plan to make a day of it, so bring a picnic lunch, or you can buy lunch at the restaurant on site.  The cost of admission is $20.

Are you thinking of having a “stay-cation”?   How about a diving stay-cation?  A Manta Divers’ group is going to Lake Wazee in Black River Falls, planning to dive August 2nd and 3rd.  Mike and I have reservations at the Best Western Arrow Head, (715)-284-9471, where rooms are $80.99 + tax per nite, with diver discount.  For those of you familiar with the area, it is the hotel by the big orange moose.  Across I-94, there is a Days Inn, (715) 282-4333, where rooms range from $94.95 to $108 +tax. If you’re looking for a roommate, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.  Mike and I plan to check in late Friday so we can claim the best spot at the quarry Saturday morning.  Saturday will be a fantastic day of diving culminating in a night dive.  As an added plus, the 4th Annual Vintage Dive Assembly www.vintagescubasupply.com/diveassembly.html   will be held at Lake Wazee that weekend.  All of us Sea Hunt fans will surely get a kick out of seeing all this classic gear, but the amazing thing is that much of this stuff still works and members really dive with it!!

For all of you warm water divers, don’t forget to sign up for the January trip to Little Cayman.  With the price of travel going out of sight, this is becoming a better deal by the day!  $2627 for air, transfers from airport accommodations, all meals, and 3 dives per day on some of the most pristine reefs in the Caribbean.  Two dive per day, nondiver and cash or check rates are also available, just call the shop.  Stay tuned for news on the Easter trip.
